Absolute best locations for your climbing trip to Greece

In April 2024 the 6bpump team set off for a climbing trip to Greece. Greece has so much to offer for climbers! Of course the most renowned place is Kalymnos, the beautiful island where crags face the sea. But you can find many stunning spots on the mainland as well, and Meteora Greece is definitely a special place. We also visited the town of Leonidio, which is rapidly growing in popularity and is becoming a world renowned destination for its beautiful caves and crags with tufas. Finally we also travelled to Varasova, a mountain of almost 1000 meters that drops into the sea.

It is a UNESCO world heritage site and you can visit some of the monasteries that were built on the top of some towers. What not so many people now is that you can also climb here. The rock is incredible and very rare: sandstone conglomerate is very uncommon and so the climbing style is also something not everyone is used to!

Bolts are quite far apart, especially on the more classic routes, so as we say, we needed a lot of “mental grip”. But the landscape and the climbing are absolutely incredible!

On our first day we decided to climb a well bolted route, just to get used to the climbing style and test our skills on this kind of rock. It turns out we climbed one of the most amazing towers called The Grail. There are two routes up the Grail, we took the one to the left (with more bolts). The descent is also incredible, with two fantastic rappels. From the top of the tower you will enjoy a great view of the valley and of the surrounding towers.
